The importance of proper announcements

Here in Berkshire County, there is definately an overabundance of DJ services, some professional, some not so much, and some that are just horrible.

The success of your event is not solely based on “BIG” speakers, light shows, and the right music. Though it can have an impact, it is essential that your DJ has the skills on the microphone to increase the emotional impact of your wedding or event as well.

Announcements, when done properly will have will create the emotion that will make your special day remembered.

One of my colleagues, Liz Daly, president of the WedGuild and who I recently trained with at the “Make It Grand” workshop understands this.

Before hiring the DJ that promises you everything for your wedding, I implore you to read this article, of how proper announcements are important

If you plan to have a successful wedding, it is important to remember that your DJ has not only the knowledge of appropriate music, but coordination skills, proper speaking technique, and above all, TALENT.

What is talent when it comes to being a DJ? Let’s start with what it is not……

Talent is NOT a vast music library
Talent is NOT a multitude of pretty lights
Talent is not sceaming into the microphone or impersonating a ring announcer to introduce you wedding party.

What is Talent?

Talent is the ability to desgin a wedding entertainment experience that will be remembered as solely yours
Talent is taking background information of your family, friends, and wedding party members so your event is memorable
Talent is getting to know the two of you and incorporating your personalities into special moments.

What kind of DJ do you want in charge of your only wedding day?

Stefan and Daniel wanted an LGBT wedding reception and chose the Hotel Northampton in Northampton, MA to celebrate their special day.

This event was actually my first LGBT wedding, and was really excited to finally be a part of this new shift in cultural acceptance, where everyone is seen as equal in regards to making a decision on who they could marry, whether that person is male or female.

Coming from a Jewish background, I actually opened the reception with their entrance into the ballroom, their first dance, and then asked everyone to join Stefan’ and Daniel in a Hora Dance as a celebratory opener to their special day

Among having several toastmasters throughout the dinner portion of the reception, the wedding couple and their guests danced throughout the night to many selections from the 70’s – today, and sang along with renditions of Neil Diamond’s” Sweet Caroline”, and Billy Joel’s “Piano Man”

As a special moment, Daniel was staged just outside the ballroom and on cue, entered the ballroom with microphone in hand, entertaining the guests to a lip sync version of Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now.”

Stefan and Daniel’s wedding will always be treasured as both my first LGBT event and a celebration of two  very special people.
