Don’t Scrimp on the DJ!!!!

IF PEOPLE LEAVE THE EVENT EARLY BECAUSE THE ENTERTAINMENT ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH — THE COUPLE HAS EFFECTIVELY WASTED EVERYTHING ON WHICH THEY SPENT MONEY TO CREATE THIS EVENT.

Choosing the right entertainment/MC/DJ is one of the very most important decisions that a couple/family will make for their event. If they don’t understand its importance because they’ve never seen the difference a qualified professional can make, they’ll not place too much emphasis on “the DJ.”

However, any party or special event, especially one as important as a wedding reception, is by its very definition a function of entertainment – it’s an entertainment function. Therefore it must be entertaining, which is the responsibility of the entertainment professional(s).

ANY PARTY IS BY ITS VERY DEFINITION A FUNCTION OF ENTERTAINMENT – IT’S AN ENTERTAINMENT FUNCTION.

Even when spending the absolute most for a DJ, when hiring the very best they can find, saying that “money is no object,” the amount spent is minimal as a percentage of the total cost of the event. It’s an even greater bargain when taken as a percentage of the overall success of the event. Most couples who hire great entertainment will tell you that it apprised much more than 80% of the success of the event. 10% of the budget for 80% of the success of the event is an amazing deal.

Yet most couples will spend more money on favors, ice, veggie trays, flowers, etc., and “save” money on a “cheap” DJ. But the “DJ” will have more impact – good or bad – than any other item a couple and their families will choose for the event. If people leave the event early because the entertainment isn’t good enough to keep everyone included, engaged, entertained, informed, and pleasantly surprised — the couple has effectively wasted everything on which they spent money to create this event, because their guests didn’t stay to enjoy it. Hiring the best entertainment you can afford will ensure you and your guests enjoy the full value you’ve spent for this one and only event.

When the proper importance is placed upon the function of entertainment at a reception or other special event, the event is made more special. Then it becomes enormously important to find the right entertainment choice, which comes down to interviewing and qualifying someone that, not only has the right training and experience, but is also a personality match with the couple and families. This person, more than any other person the bride and groom will deal with, will represent them directly and be a spokesperson on their behalf.

Bottom line: A bride and groom can hold their event at a recreation room in a mobile home park and serve beans and franks, and if they have great entertainment, the celebration will be fantastic and a huge success. On the other hand, they can have it a the Ritz Carlton with 5 star dining, but if they don’t contract the right entertainment, people will politely leave early, muttering, “That was a great dinner! Ya, lovely setting.”

Don’t scrimp on entertainment. It’s the one thing that will truly make or “break” your party. And the most expensive special event DJ/MC you can find is still an incredible bargain if you and your guests have an amazing event and rave about it for years to come.

Janine and Jason – Aug 2nd, 2012

Janine and Jason were married on August 2nd at the beautiful Wequassett Resort and Golf club on the shore of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Choosing to invite about their closest family and friends, Janine and Jason held their ceremony on a special reserved area of the resort overlooking the deep blue Atlantic Ocean. I was asked to provide the ceremony music with selections chosen by Janine and Jason. Pachabel by Canon was used for the bridesmaids and the Traditional Wedding March were chosen for Janine’s bridal march.

Following the ceremony guests were invited onto the balcony area where they were greeted to the sounds of music ranging from Jazz, Contemporary Standards, and classic soft rock selections from the 60’s through today.

An additional Bose L1 was provided on the balcony of the Wequassett for the one hour cocktail period

Family and friends moved into the reception area where they were greeted with more contemporary jazz and light rock selections leading up to Janine and Jason’s grand entrance.

A simple introduction of the bride and groom was all that was needed as I invited them into the reception area and onto the center of the floor for their first dance as husband and wife. For their wedding song, Janine and Jason chose “I Love You This Big” from country singer Scotty McCreary

At the conclusion of dinner, Janine and Jason cut their wedding cake and opened the dance floor for the remainder of the evening. Guests danced throughout the night to a selection of classic rock songs from 1950′s through today mixed in with some of today’s popular Top 40 and Country selections

Amber and Scott – May 27th, 2012

One of our most memorable couples, Amber and Scott chose the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Pittsfield MA. as the site for both their ceremony and reception

Combined with both style and fun. Amber and Scott celebrated their day by incorporating some special moments along with some traditional Jewish customs to reflect their personalities.

To ensure that all members of their wedding party were known to their family and friends, I used personalized introductions to highlights each member of the wedding party to their relationship to Amber and Scott

As the reception kicked our couple set the tone of the entire evening with their first dance of “Lucky” by Jason Mraz

Other special moments included were parents dances, the traditional garter and bouquet toss, and the Hora Dance.

Megan and Derek were married on June 18, 2011 and chose the Hampdem Country Club for their wedding reception.

This couple was an absolute delight to work with. From the planning process, to the day of the event, there was never a moment where these two were not smiling, laughing, or just loving every moment of their lives.

Being a professional singer, Megan wanted to honor her mother with a special song. Instead of a special dance, I opted to have Megan’s mother join me on the dance floor and started “Wind Beneath My Wings”. Megan acended the ballroom staircase with microphone in hand, joining her mother on the floor for a serenade

To me they represent the perfect wedding couple and a reminder as to why I enjoy performing weddings.

April & Joe: Sept. 24th, 2011

A Berkshire DJ wedding showcase

Simple weddings can still be fun and memorable.

April and Joe were married in Pittsfield, MA. at the famous Mazzeo’s restaurant, known in the Berkshire area as being one of the top catering halls

The couple wanted a very simple wedding, and invited me to be their DJ for the evening with a very simple entertainment structure.

Other than a first dance for April and Joe, there were no other special moments planned for the evening. This allowed the guests to enjoy a more laid backed and less structured atmosphere where everyone could just let loose and dance the night away.

This wedding is an example that you can still have a successful wedding without all the formalities.
